Shoutout to the $3 coffee can that taught me how much I was wasting on my daily stop
I was digging through my parents' garage in Cleveland last month and found my mom's old coffee can she used to save change in back in the 90s, and it had a note taped to it that said she saved $412 in one year just dumping her spare change in there. That number blew my mind because it is almost exactly what I was spending at the coffee shop drive thru every year, about $8 a week and I never even noticed it leaving my account. So I started my own can on the kitchen counter six months ago and I have already counted up $87 worth of quarters and dimes, which is not life changing money but it covers my car registration this year. What got me was how my mom never thought of it as saving, she just did not like loose change in her purse, and somehow that made it easier than any budget app I have ever tried. My can is a plain plastic jar now instead of metal, but the habit feels the same and I like that it does not need wifi or a login. Has anyone else gone back to the old jar or can trick after trying all the phone apps?
