Vent: I called the $20 bill envelope thing a joke until my card got skimmed at a Shell in Dayton
I used to think cash stuffing was something only people on TikTok with fancy binders did, and I would roll my eyes every time a coworker pulled out a stack of ones for lunch. Then in March my debit card got skimmed at a Shell on Wilkinson in Dayton and I watched $340 in DoorDash charges hit my account before I even got home. While the bank sorted it out, I was stuck using cash for 9 days, and I accidentally figured out my own budget on the back of a receipt. I pulled $200 out, split it into gas, food, and fun, and when the fun envelope was empty on Thursday I just stopped spending instead of tapping my phone and pretending it was fine. I saved $215 that month without trying, mostly because handing over a $20 hurts way more than a tap. I still use my card for bills but the envelopes are staying for the day to day stuff. Has anyone else switched back to cash for part of their budget, and how do you handle stuff like online orders?
