Picked up a tip at a flea market in Decatur that changed my vinyl lettering game
An old sign painter told me to use a heat gun on low for 10 seconds before peeling the transfer tape, and it stopped my letters from lifting off the backing. Has anyone else tried warming their vinyl before application?

Ive used 150 degrees for 5 seconds on small letters and it works every time without melting anything.

That 150 for 5 seconds is pretty much the sweet spot for small stuff. I've pushed it a bit higher, like 160 for 3 seconds on some tricky materials and it still didn't melt. But you gotta be careful with that extra heat, it can warp thin plastic or vinyl. The real trick is making sure your pressure is light too, just a tap. Heavier pressure traps the heat and that's what actually causes the damage, not the temp itself.
