Warning: spent $47 on a custom font for my sticker line and I can barely use it
I wanted my "Salt Life, Sort Of" sticker to have a real hand lettered feel, so I dropped $47 on a display font from one of those design sites about 6 weeks ago. The preview looked perfect on my screen in Columbus. Then I sent it to my cutter and the thin strokes just vanished at 3 inches wide, you get gaps and broken letters everywhere. I bumped it up to 4 inches and it looked clunky and childish, nothing like the sample. Turns out display fonts are made for posters and logos, not for small die cut vinyl, and I should have checked that first. I tested it on 5 different sayings and not one came out clean. So now I'm out the $47 plus a roll of white vinyl and an afternoon of cutting. Anyone got a go to font that actually holds up at 3 inches, or do you just letter your own stuff by hand?
