Just realized the free contract template my old boss in Lansing pushed on me cost me way more than a lawyer would have
Back in 2022 my old boss at a landscaping company handed me a free contract template and swore I didn't need to pay a lawyer $600 to look it over, so I used it for two years. A client pushed back on the payment terms last month and it turned out the template had a clause that let them hold 20% until the whole job was done, which cost me about $3,400 in delayed cash. Does anyone here have a cheap way to get contracts checked, or is paying a lawyer just the cost of doing business?
