Non-compete clause fight: fought it or just paid the lawyer?
I signed a non-compete with my old employer in Austin back in 2021, and when I left to start my own cleaning business, they threatened to sue unless I paid them $8,000. My lawyer said fighting it could cost more in court fees than just settling, so I paid and moved on. But a buddy of mine in Dallas fought a similar clause with the same wording and won, got the whole thing tossed. Has anyone here dealt with a non-compete they thought was too broad, and did you find it worth the legal pushback or not?
