Vent: I laughed at my brother's $8 velcro strips for 3 months, then I ate my words
My little brother kept going on about these cheap velcro ties he got for like $8 at a hardware store in Cincinnati, and I honestly thought it was the dumbest thing I'd ever heard. I told him real cable management means hiding everything behind a raceway or just shoving it all in a box like a normal person. Then my cat got tangled in the 6 foot mess under my desk and yanked my monitor off the table, cracking the screen. That was $140 I wasn't planning on spending that week. So I swallowed my pride and tried his velcro trick, wrapping each cord into a loop before strapping it down. Two months later and my desk back is actually clean, and I can pull one cord out without dragging the whole pile with it. So now I owe him an apology, but I'm not sure what to do about the two power bricks that are too fat for the straps. Any ideas for those chunky ones?
Ha, that velcro trick got me too after my surge protector turned into spaghetti. For the fat power bricks, I just loop the cord and strap the loop to the brick itself instead of wrapping the strap around the whole thing. You can also stick a piece of the velcro right on the brick with the sticky back kind, then strap the loop to that. Mounting the brick to the underside of the desk or the wall with a couple of screws also frees up a ton of space and keeps it from sliding around. Works better than trying to force a fat brick into a thin strap, trust me on that one.
