Rant: I drilled pilot holes for cable staples for 2 years and nobody at my shop ever mentioned it
I was training a new guy at a job in Mesa and he asked why I was punching holes in every stud before tapping in staples, and I told him that's just how it's done, but he pulled up the spec sheet on his phone showing the staples are designed to bite straight into the wood. I felt like a total idiot because I'd been adding 15 or 20 extra minutes to every drop just wearing out my wrist with that drill, and the staples hold fine without it anyway. Anyone else get taught a step that turned out to be pure habit passed down from some old timer?
