Unpopular opinion: the rookie on my crew made me recheck how I test signal before I close a wall
Last Tuesday in Rochester we were finishing a 3-unit job and this kid who's been on the truck maybe 6 weeks asked why I check signal before screwing the wall plate back on. I said that's how I've always done it, and he said his old lead always tested at the tap first because a plate hides a bad crimp. That got under my skin, so I grabbed my meter and checked both ends on the next run and sure enough the reading at the tap was off by 4 dB from what I saw at the wall. Now I'm wondering how many callbacks over the years were really just me testing in the wrong spot. Anyone else switch up their test routine because a new guy said something that stuck?
