Dropped $140 on a Hakko soldering station for ribbon cables, and I'm still mad about it
Half of you will say a $25 iron does the same job on camera flex cables, the other half will say a good station saves you from lifting pads on a $300 sensor board. I'm not sure which side I'm on after doing 6 cameras with it, so tell me where you land, cheap iron or the real thing?
Used to roll my eyes at people who swore by the expensive stations, figured they just liked burning money. Then I cooked a pad off a board that cost more than the iron ever would have, and yeah, that changed my tune real quick. The cheap one still lives in my drawer for dumb stuff, but flex cables get the good tip now.
