That $80 lens spanner just paid for itself, but only after a day of misery
I tried to fix a stuck retaining ring on a 50mm with a cheap jeweler's screwdriver and it slipped, scratched the element bezel, and chewed up the ring slot completely. Finally bought a proper lens spanner for 80 bucks and got the ring off in 15 minutes. Now I'm facing a 40 dollar replacement bezel because I was too cheap to buy the right tool from the start. Has anyone else had a DIY shortcut ruin a part that cost more than the proper tool would have been?
