I stopped trusting online tent reviews after a wet weekend in Bend
Here's what bugs me about most camping gear reviews: people rate a tent after one dry night in the backyard and call it waterproof. I bought a 2 person tent last spring based on glowing reviews, took it to Bend in October, and it leaked right along the seam above my head by 2am. Turns out half the reviewers never tested it in real rain, they just liked how it looked set up in the driveway. So now I ignore any review that doesn't say how many nights the person actually slept in the thing and in what weather. My rule is I want at least 10 nights and one honest rain story before I trust a word. The specs on the box don't tell you squat either, a 3000mm rating sounds great until the seam tape peels after 4 trips. Anyone else got a filter they use before trusting a gear review, or do you just roll the dice?
