Hot glue vs tape for load bearing joints, I think we're all wrong about one of them
Been building cardboard furniture for a year now and I keep seeing posts where people swear by hot glue for anything holding weight. But last month I built a shelf in my garage in Austin that collapsed after 3 days because the glue joints just sheared off. The tape on the other hand, the good strapping tape with fibers, held fine when I tested a chair arm. Am I missing something or do we need to fight about this? Has anyone actually tested both on the same project?
Man, my buddy in Houston had the exact same thing happen with a shop bench, glue popped right off the cardboard after a few days. He switched to fiber tape on the weight points and it's still holding two years later.
