Shoutout to the guy who told me to keep a 'brag file'
At a networking event in Chicago last year, an older project manager said to save every nice email and win in a folder. I started doing it, and it made writing my performance review actually bearable. Anyone else keep one of these?

Isnt a brag file just the same as a portfolio but with nicer words?

People miss that a brag file is actually a TOOL for YOURSELF, not just a nicer word for showing other people. A portfolio is usually polished and only shows the final results, but a brag file captures the messy middle stuff like times you fixed a problem nobody else noticed or went way above your job description. That raw detail is GOLD when you're writing performance reviews or negotiating a raise because you forget half that stuff by the time review season rolls around. Portfolios are for external audiences, brag files are for YOU to remember your own worth when confidence dips or you need to argue for more money.
