My brother-in-law has his toddlers handing him nails during projects

I saw my brother-in-law let his little kids pass him nails while he was framing a shed. It made me look around, and now I spot similar scenes on other job sites. Parents are getting their young ones involved way earlier than before. They give them safe, simple tasks to keep them busy and learning. It reminds me of how my grandpa would have me hold boards as a kid. I think it builds a sense of family and skill from the start. Just make sure the little ones are kept clear of the sharp stuff and loud tools.

My dad used to let me sort screws in his garage when I was about four. It really did teach me to be careful and helpful. Do you see your brother-in-law's kids enjoying it?

Do the kids get what's going on, or are they just having fun passing stuff? @mila_craig4 talked about learning to be helpful, but does that click for toddlers? Either way, starting early seems to stick with them as they grow.

Sorting screws at four is pretty advanced. My big win at that age was not eating the paste. I figure kids are mostly just having fun with the passing stuff part, like @casey_shah76 said, but the helpfulness sort of seeps in around the edges. They might not get the grand plan, but they pick up on the "we do this together" vibe. Starting early just makes that stuff feel normal, not like a chore.
