Stumbled on a carpet density stat that blew my mind
I was reading a manufacturer spec sheet last night, the kind you skim and toss, and it said face weight is only part of the story. A 40 ounce carpet with tight twist can outperform a 60 ounce loose pile for wear. That surprised me because I've been quoting density numbers to customers for years, telling them heavier always means tougher. I checked with my supplier in Columbus and he confirmed it, said it's all about the stitches per inch and how tight the yarn is packed. Anyone else ever base a bid on face weight alone and later find out the cheaper product held up better?
