The tamale lady in Fresno looked at my order and said I was doing it wrong
I used to show up at her cart on Tuesdays and buy four tamales for myself because they were a dollar each and I figured more food meant a better deal. After about a month she finally leaned over and asked if I was feeding a family, and when I said no she shook her head and handed me two instead, saying the masa gets cold and I was wasting my own money. She was right, the second pair always went soggy in my bag and I ended up tossing them. Now I get two hot ones and a $1.50 cup of champurrado and I walk out spending less than I did before. Anyone else get corrected by a vendor about how to actually order their food?
