My walk-in cooler died at 9pm on a Friday and I learned what 6 hours really costs
Last Friday around 9pm the compressor on our walk-in just stopped. I had about $1,800 of product in there between the prime rib for Saturday service and all my prep for the weekend brunch crowd. Spent two hours hauling everything into the reach-ins and the beer cooler, then called a repair guy who wanted $400 just to show up on a weekend. He got there at 2am and said it was a blown start relay, a $60 part. We lost maybe $300 of product and I got home at 4am. Now I keep a spare relay taped inside the cooler panel and a temp alarm on my phone. Anybody else keep spare parts on hand for their refrigeration, or am I just paranoid now?
