Spent $340 on a rotary chimney brush setup and I'm honestly not sure it was money well spent
I finally bit the bullet and bought a rotary brush kit with the flexible rods for about $340 after running standard poly brushes on a pole for years. The pitch was that it cuts creosote faster and gets those glazed flaky deposits that a stiff brush just polishes over. First job I tried it on was a shop in town with a badly glazed flue, and I'll admit it knocked the glaze down quicker than anything I'd used before. But the rods whip around something awful on taller runs, and I chewed up a set of rods on a 30 foot flue when they kinked at a bend. Replacement rods run about $18 a piece so that adds up fast. On lighter maintenance sweeps the regular brush still does the job just as well and I'm not dragging a drill and a pile of rods up the roof. I want to like this thing but I'm splitting about 50/50 on whether it pays for itself. Anyone here running rotary setups long term, do the rods hold up for you or am I doing something wrong with the speed?
