My electric car's range dropped by 30 miles in one winter week and I'm losing my mind over battery health

Last Tuesday in Denver, I drove my usual 15-mile commute and watched the battery gauge drop from 80% to 45% because I ran the heater for 20 minutes, so has anyone found a way to keep their EV warm without killing the range?

Have you tried preheating the car while it's still plugged in at home? I just set my timer to warm it up before I leave and it uses wall power instead of the battery.

Last winter my buddy in Chicago tried one of those heated seat pads you plug into the 12V outlet and ran that instead of the cabin heater. Saved him about 15 miles of range each day but he said his legs got kinda toasty and his back was sweating by the time he got to work. He also wrapped a thick blanket around his legs while driving which looked ridiculous but actually worked pretty well. Just make sure you can still hit the brake pedal.
