My thermostat was set to 'hold' for 3 years and I never questioned it
When I finally ran the numbers on my energy bill from Denver last March, it hit me that I'd been paying to heat an empty apartment from 9 to 5 every weekday, and my programmable schedule had been sitting unused since I moved in, so has anyone else found their settings just defaulting to 'hold' without noticing?

How long did it take before you actually checked the thing? I ask because I did the same deal with my AC for two summers, and the worst part was the little screen showed "hold" the whole time. I walked past it every single day and my brain just read it as "temp" or something. What finally made you look, the bill or just being bored one night? Curious if there was a specific number on that March bill that set you off.
