Pedaling through rain made me rethink bike lanes and climate goals

I started biking to work to help the planet and get in shape. My fitness has improved, and I'm putting less carbon into the air. Some folks argue that encouraging biking is a key way to fight climate change in cities. But on the other hand, without good bike lanes, it can feel unsafe, especially in bad weather. Just yesterday, I got soaked and almost hit by a bus because the bike path ended suddenly. So, I'm torn between pushing for more people to bike and wanting better safety measures first. Does focusing on personal health through biking distract from needing bigger changes like public transit? What's your take on this balance?

Honestly, that bus scare shows why pushing personal change without safety first is pointless.

Seriously, I used to think just telling people to bike more was the answer. But hearing about your bus scare changed my mind, because safe paths have to come first. Without them, pushing personal change is pretty pointless.

What about drivers who don't respect the paths?
