Almost tossed my $30 hand grinder after 2 weeks, then a barista in Austin showed me what I was doing
Picked up a cheap burr grinder off marketplace for $30 and the first few cups had chunks big enough to see, so I figured the thing was junk and almost tossed it in the bin. Before I did, a barista at a shop in Austin asked what setting I was on and pointed out I was grinding way too coarse for pour over, plus I was pushing the beans through too fast. Switched to a finer setting and slowed my pour way down, and the same beans tasted like a totally different drink, sweeter and way less bitter. Now I'm wondering if I was too quick to blame the gear, has anyone else saved a cheap grinder with just a setting tweak?
