Just found out most drip coffee makers brew at the wrong temp and now I'm checking mine
Grabbed a cheap thermometer last week and my Mr. Coffee is hitting 172F instead of the 195-205F range the SCAA says you need for proper extraction. That explains why my light roasts taste sour no matter what I do. Anyone else test their machine's actual brew temp, or am I the only one late to this?
Saw a video from a guy called James Hoffmann about this and he said most cheap machines are all over the place on temp. He tested a bunch and some were sitting down around 165-175 which is way too low for a good cup. The fix people use is to run a preheat cycle with just water first, then brew, since that gets the tubes and basket hot before the grounds hit them.
