Rant: paid $85 for a 'digital nomad' cafe pass in Chicago and got 4 hours of wifi that kept dropping
So I bought this $85 monthly pass for a chain of cafes in Chicago that promised fast wifi, quiet zones, and unlimited drip coffee. Sounded perfect for a remote work trip I had last week. Turns out the wifi dropped every 15 minutes at two of the three spots, and the 'quiet zone' was just a table next to the espresso machine. I burned about 6 hours total just reconnecting and moving spots, which basically killed a whole work day. The coffee was fine but I could have paid $12 at a normal shop and gotten the same thing. Has anyone found a cafe pass or coworking deal that actually delivers what it advertises, or should I just stick to buying a single latte and camping out?
Man I feel this in my soul. Dropped like $60 on a similar pass in Austin last year and the "dedicated work area" was literally three stools by a window with no outlets. Wifi kept kicking me off every time someone opened the microwave too close to the router or whatever. I spent more time tethering off my phone than actually working, which ate through my data. Now I just find one good shop, buy a latte every couple hours, and tip well so they don't hate me. Way cheaper and way less headache.
