The cafe on 5th and Main had a 20 cent drip refill when I moved here in 2021
Moved to Portland 3 years ago and the first spot I worked from was this little cafe on 5th and Main. Drip coffee was $1.75 and refills were 20 cents. I'd camp out for 4 hours and spend maybe $3 total. Fast forward to last month and that same cafe charges $4.50 for a drip and no refills unless you buy a pastry. The owner told me rent on the block went up 40% since 2021 and he had to do something. I get it, but man it stings. I switched to a library branch two blocks over for my long focus blocks and only hit the cafe for short meetings now. My monthly coffee shop budget dropped from $180 to around $70. Curious if other folks in smaller cities are seeing the same jump or if this is just a Portland thing?
