Lost my regulator at 30 feet off the coast of Monterey and had to share air
I was doing a pipeline inspection near the cannery row breakwater when my second stage just started freeflowing like crazy. Had to grab my buddy's octopus and ascend slow while the current was pushing us toward the rocks. Anybody else had a regulator fail on them in a high current situation and how did you handle the exit?

Was your reg serviced recently, or did it just crap out on its own?

Oh man, "current was pushing us toward the rocks" - that part got my heart racing just reading it. Something similar happened to me in Puget Sound a few years ago. My reg started freeflowing at about 40 feet during a drift dive with @nathan289 actually. The current was ripping so hard we had to grab onto a boulder just to stay in place while I switched to my buddy's backup. The exit was a mess because we surfaced way past our planned spot and had to swim against the current for like 15 minutes to get back to shore. I totally feel your pain with that Monterey current too, it can be brutal near the breakwater.
