Overheard a supply house counter guy in Nashville say one sentence about backflow testing, and it's been bugging me for a week
I was standing in line at a supply house off 8th Ave last Tuesday waiting on some no-hub couplings when the counter guy leaned over and told the plumber in front of me he had seen 4 failed backflow assemblies come back from the same commercial building in 6 months, and none of them had tags from the annual test. That number stuck with me all week. I do install work so testing isn't really my lane, but I've been on plenty of jobs where the test report gets shoved in a drawer and nobody looks at it again until the water company comes knocking. What got me was he said the property manager had no idea there was a problem because the irrigation guy just kept resetting the thing every time it tripped. So now I'm wondering how many buildings out there are running on a reset button instead of a real test. Any of you guys in testing ever get called in to a spot like that and find the whole log was fake?
