A customer's one comment made me rethink my whole cable labeling system
Last month I finished a server rack job for a small law firm in Austin. Old wiring was a total mess, so I re-labeled everything with my usual color coded tags. The office manager came by and said 'that's nice, but what happens when you leave and we need to trace a line?' It hit me that my labels only made sense to me. I switched to a naming scheme that uses the actual device and port, plus a printed floor map taped inside the cabinet. Took me maybe 20 extra minutes per rack, but now any person can follow it. Has anyone else had to dumb down their labeling system after a client asked a similar question?
