Why does nobody talk about using a rubbing stone on fresh concrete?

I always thought it was just an old timer's myth until I tried it on a tricky driveway pour in Phoenix last summer where the finish was looking rough. The difference was night and day, has anyone else had good results with this method?

Used a rubbing stone on a patio last July and it saved the whole pour from looking like a desert mess.

Last time I tried a rubbing stone I ended up with more dust on my face than on the patio. At least the neighbors got a show.
