Vent: My $60 Xbox controller broke after 3 months and I had to buy a new one

I bought an off-brand Xbox controller off Amazon for about $60 back in November. The left thumbstick started drifting bad by February, right in the middle of a Borderlands run. I tried updating the firmware and cleaning it, but nothing fixed it. So I had to shell out another $70 for an official Microsoft one that actually works. Anyone else get burned by cheap third-party controllers and learn the hard way?

Did you try reaching out to Amazon support before buying the new one? Sometimes they'll actually refund or replace stuff if you complain about defects within a few months. I learned that the hard way too after a cheap PowerA controller gave out on me during a Halo session.

Actually it's not just Amazon... most places have a 30 day return window for electronics. After that you're at the mercy of the manufacturer's warranty. PowerA controllers specifically have a 2 year warranty but you gotta go through their website, not Amazon. I had a drift issue with one and they sent me a replacement after I filled out a form and sent a video showing the problem. Just a heads up in case yours gives out again mid-Halo session.
