I used to argue with conspiracy folks by dumping links, then a guy at a Portland meetup asked me one question that shut me up
For about 6 months I was that person in every thread posting 10 sources at once and wondering why nobody changed their mind. Last week at a small debate night in Portland, a retired teacher named Ray asked me if I had ever actually read the stuff I was linking or just the headlines. I had to admit it was mostly headlines, and he said that is why people stop listening, because it feels like getting pelted with homework instead of talked to. Now I ask what would change their mind first before I say anything. Has anyone else tried that and had it actually work, or does it just turn into a circle?
