Side by side test: free muckraker blog vs. $40 patreon deep dive

I spent last month comparing a free investigative blog on the Denver water board scandal against a $40 Patreon series that promised the full story. The free one had the basics but kept hinting at sources without names. The paid one had actual documents, a timeline, and named the city contractor who signed off on the report. For once the money version won out, but it made me wonder if we're all just paying for someone to do the legwork we could do ourselves. Anyone else hit that wall where the paid 'truth' is just organized effort?
