Am I the only one who greases excavator pins with a cheapo $12 grease gun instead of the $200 setup?
Everyone at the yard keeps telling me I need a battery powered grease gun to keep up, but my little manual one has run fine for two years now. Problem was my thumb would cramp up after doing all 14 pins on the 320, so I started pulling the handle with my palm instead of my thumb and it stopped hurting. I hit each fitting with 3 pumps, wipe the old grease off the fitting first so grit doesn't push in, and I get through the whole machine in about 25 minutes. The boss still shakes his head at me, but that $188 I didn't spend went into new boots. Anyone else still running a manual gun, or am I the last one on the crew doing it this way?

My uncle ran a manual gun on a 320 for years and swore the battery ones push grease too fast and blow out seals if you're not careful. I read on a forum once that 3 pumps per fitting is about right for most pins anyway, so you're not really saving time with the fancy gun, just saving your arm. Wiping the fitting first is the part most guys skip and then they wonder why their pins wear out. Keep the 12 dollar gun, boots matter more than looking cool at the yard.
