Hot take: a 20 year operator told me my track tension was too tight and it saved me 4 grand
Pulled a stupid move last week and over-tightened the tracks on my CAT 308 because I thought tighter meant better. A vet with 20 years on dozers pointed at my sprockets and told me I was wearing them out 5 times faster and to run them at about an inch of sag, not zero. Checked the manual when I got back to the shop and he was dead on, I was cooking the seals on a machine I still owe money on. How do you guys set your sag, do you measure it or just eyeball it from behind the cab?
