Hot take: the old operator at the yard in Tulsa told me to run my mini ex at half throttle for grading, and I thought he was nuts

I was digging a patio pad last month and kept getting a scalloped, wavy finish no matter how slow I moved the joysticks on my 3 ton machine. He said drop it to half throttle and let the hydraulics catch up instead of racing the engine, and the cut came out flat on the first pass. Anybody else run their compact machines at reduced throttle for fine grading, or is that just a quirk of this particular machine?
