My uncle told me in 2009 to never buy a skid steer without checking the hour meter twice, and I finally get why
He ran a small grading outfit out of Modesto for like 30 years before he passed. I was 22 and thought I knew better. Bought a used machine off a guy in Stockton with 2,100 hours on the clock, or so the sticker said. Ran fine for a month. Then the hydraulic pump started whining and my mechanic pulled the panel and found a second hour meter tucked behind the seat reading 6,400. Somebody had swapped the dash gauge. Cost me $3,800 to fix what I thought was a good deal. Uncle Ray just shook his head and said "told ya, kid." Now I crawl under every machine I look at and check for the real meter. Anyone else get burned on swapped gauges like this?
