Bumping out with the old hand signals vs the radio on a Fort Worth job
I used to work with a guy near Fort Worth who swore by radio only and would not take hand signals from anyone on the ground. Last month we had a pick where the radio kept cutting out behind the steel and I couldn't hear a word, so the rigger fell back on hand signals and it went smooth as anything. Hand signals never need a fresh battery or a clear channel. It seems like a lot of newer guys never really learn them past the basic class. Has anyone else had a job where the radio went dead and the old signals saved the pick?
