Was sure those little wind speed phone apps were junk for reading boom tip gusts, then one saved me on a Tuesday
A retired operator in Tulsa told me to download a free anemometer app on my phone since my old cab gauge read 12 mph while the boom tip was catching way more, but I figured a phone sensor was a toy compared to a real handheld meter. Last Tuesday up at 94 feet, the app read 31 mph while the ground said 14, so I brought the load down and found out later a gust front hit 20 minutes after. Do any of you trust phone wind apps at height, or am I fooling myself and should just buy a real anemometer?
