My horror prompt went fluffy on me, twice in a row

Kept trying to write a grim haunted house scene for a prompt, but every draft turned into the ghost offering the protagonist tea and a blanket. Happened again last night with a different prompt, I think my brain just craves comfort endings lately. Anyone else's tone completely betray them no matter what the prompt asks for?
