My old English teacher said never start with a quote, and 12 years later I finally get why
Wrote a short story last month that opened with a quote from a character, and my writing group said it felt like I was hiding from my own voice. Turns out Mrs. Patterson was onto something back in 10th grade. Anyone else have a writing rule that took years to click?
