Mrs. Delgado at Roosevelt High told me in 2012 that outlines were a waste of time and real writers just sit down and go, so I did that for years and mostly ended up with half-finished stories and no clue where anything was headed. Now I keep a messy one-page note before every prompt and finish about twice as many drafts, which feels like a small betrayal of her. Curious if other people here outline their prompt responses or just wing it, and whether the winging it ever gets easier.
