Rant: Plotting by vibe vs. plotting by note cards, one of them ate my manuscript
I spent 6 weeks freewriting my fantasy novel with zero outline, just following whatever felt fun. Last Tuesday I reread chapter 4 and the main character's motivation had completely flipped with no reason, plus a side character had died twice. I switched to a simple index card system, one card per scene with the goal and the obstacle. In 3 days I found 14 logic holes and fixed them before writing another word. Has anyone else had a pantsing project that turned into a total rewrite, or is my brain just wired to need the cards?
