Serious question, did a 30-word story prompt actually change my mind about writing rules?
I always thought word count limits on writing prompts were a waste of time and I would skip any prompt under 500 words. Then a guy at my local library writers group in Boise handed out a prompt that said write a whole story in 30 words or less, and I rolled my eyes but tried it anyway. I wrote six versions and every single one got sharper because I had to cut every word that was not pulling weight. Now I actually start my longer pieces with a tiny 30-word version first to find out if the idea even works. Does anyone else use super short prompts as a warm up, or is it just me?
