Tried a pun about a circle at my son's cub scout meeting and got dead silence
I was helping with the geometry badge last Tuesday and thought I had the perfect one. I said "why was the circle so good at dodgeball? Because nobody could hit its weak point." The kids just stared at me, but two of the dads groaned and one actually laughed. I learned that a pun needs an audience that gets the setup, otherwise it falls flat like a circle with no center. Has anyone else bombed with a joke that killed at home but flopped in public?

Oh man, you're overthinking this. It's a pun for cub scouts, not a TED Talk. They're kids, they zone out. The dads got it, that's a win.

Nah, you're right though. Simple joke, simple win.
