Rant: people keep walking their dogs on the blacktop at noon in July and wondering why they quit on them
I walk my two mutts around the same 2 mile loop in Tucson every morning around 6:15, and by 8 the asphalt at the park is hot enough that I can feel it through my sneakers. Three different folks on my route still bring their labs out at lunch when it's 104 out, then act confused when the dog just plants itself in the shade and won't move. A dog's paws burn way faster than we think, and if you can't hold your own hand on the pavement for 7 seconds, it's too hot for them. Has anyone found a cooler route on the east side, or do I just need to start walking before the sun even comes up?
