Overheard a guy at Best Buy say $20 earbuds are good enough for podcasts
I literally laughed out loud. Tried his Anker buds for a day and the treble was so harsh I got a headache after 30 minutes. Anyone else find that cheap buds ruin spoken word with sibilance?

Why are we pretending expensive earbuds automatically fix bad audio mixing? A lot of podcasts sound like they were recorded in a tin can anyway, so cheaper buds just expose what's already there. You're blaming the earbuds for something the podcast producers should have fixed first.

Wait, hold on. You're telling me that expensive earbuds don't just magically make everything sound like a studio recording? That can't be right, I've seen the ads! I know @the_richard probably just dropped a few hundred bucks on a pair and now he's feeling defensive, but he's actually on to something real. A lot of my favorite podcasts have this weird hollow echo, and my budget buds just let me hear it loud and clear. It's like hearing a song you love on a car radio that's busted, it's the source that's messed up, not the speakers. So yeah, blaming the earbuds for bad production is like blaming your fork for a bad meal.
