Stuck at the bus stop with a guy who only wanted to talk about ear tips

Last Tuesday I was waiting for the 42 bus downtown when this older dude sits next to me and immediately asks what I'm listening to. I told him some random podcast and he just goes 'but what ear tips are you using?' I laughed thinking he was joking, but he pulled a little case out of his pocket with like 10 different sizes of silicone and foam tips. He spent the next 15 minutes explaining how the wrong tip can 'ruin your bass response and waste your battery life' because you crank the volume up. I was late for work but honestly I learned my small ear canals have been robbing me of low end this whole time. Anyone else ever get ambushed by a tip enthusiast in public?

Wait did you end up trying any of his tips? My buddy got cornered at a coffee shop by some guy who spent twenty minutes breaking down how memory foam tips fix the "vacuum seal problem" in his ears. He actually let the dude swap out his stock tips right there at the table and he said the difference was wild, like someone finally unclogged his headphones. Now he's got a whole drawer of silicone and foam tips for different moods like it's a weird hobby. Honestly I still think getting ambushed by a random audio nerd is better than the guy who tried to sell me essential oils on the train.

Is the guy really gonna carry different tips around for different "moods"? Sounds like overkill to me. I swapped to foam tips once and hated them, they made everything sound muffled and like I was underwater. People act like stock silicone tips are trash but they work fine for most of us who don't want to turn our headphones into a science experiment.
