Swapped d20s with a friend mid-session and it broke my character's curse

I was running a one-shot last Saturday and my rogue kept rolling under 5 on every check. After the third natural 1 in a row, the guy next to me offered to trade dice for a round. I grabbed his purple sparkle d20 and rolled a 19 on my next stealth check. Learned that sometimes dice just get cold and swapping with someone else's can reset the luck.

Jumped in and swapped dice with my friend once and immediately rolled a 3 on my next attack, so your mileage may definitely vary on this one. In my experience, my dice just hate me no matter whose hands they're in, cold or not. I'm starting to think it's not the dice, it's me.

Is your friend secretly a dice whisperer or something? I had a buddy who swore his dice were cursed so he gave them to his little sister to roll for him once. She rolled a nat 20 on his first attack and he was so mad about it he never asked her to roll again. Honestly it sounds like you and my friend would get along, blaming the dice but still coming up with excuses to keep them around. Maybe the real curse is just how much we overthink the whole thing.
