I called BS on pre-rinsing plates until my neighbor proved me wrong

For years I thought people who pre rinse were just wasting water. But last week my neighbor Dave challenged me to a load off and his dishes came out spotless while mine still had crusted egg on a fork. He showed me his trick of using a spray bottle with just a tiny bit of dawn to hit the sticky spots before loading. Honestly it takes like 15 seconds total and saves me from rewashing half the load every time. Has anyone else found a weird pre treat method that actually works?

Dave's spray bottle trick just moved him up two spots on my neighbor ranking list.

Heard some guy on a podcast talking about that same trick. Said it works even better if you add a drop of dish soap to the water so it really sticks to the leaves and the cat. Apparently cats hate the taste of soapy water more than plain water so they remember not to go near that plant again. Might save you a spot or two on your own ranking list if you try it out.
